Case Study

Optum Health needed a design overhaul for client and member-facing sites, including Live and Work Well, Optum Rx and more.

On a long-term contract with JWT, I led the user-experience initiative on Optum Live and Work Well, working closely with a Lean Agile Team and meeting consistently with project stakeholders at Optum.

The Process

Working collaboratively with a cross-functional team consisting of leads from Business Stakeholders to Development Teams to Research and Visual Design, I worked to identify and document existing patterns as well as integrate new patterns into the complex Design System.

I provided wireframes and functional prototypes, competitive audits and research, identified research needs and conducted interviews and research sprints, and mentored junior design team members, as well as provided comprehensive written documentation.

My Role: Senior UX Design Lead

I was brought on after the initial requirements were defined, and got up to speed quickly through stakeholder interviews, research review, content audits and team collaboration. In this role I had the rare opportunity to influence every part of the UX process, from Wireframes, User Journeys and Prototypes to the DPL to User Testing and Functional Prototypes (HTML/ CSS).

My role allowed me the opportunity to be both hands-on in the critical UX Design functions, as well as Design Lead by mentoring and working with junior team members and designers. Additionally, I collaborated with the overall Optum team to present UX discoveries, align vision and consistent strategic and visual voice, and contributed technical documentation and structure to the Optum Design Pattern Library.
